Administrative history

Founded in 1929, the McKinnon Guild of the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg was formed to commemorate the memory of the late Dr. Frank L. McKinnon. Consisting originally of fifteen volunteer members, the guild contributed to the continued success of the Children’s Hospital by rolling bandages, marking linens, and sorting tin-foil; a project that continued up until the beginning of World War II.
In 1953, the McKinnon Guild opened a shop on Osborne Street, selling nearly new merchandise donated by members in order to fund their continuing activities. This shop has changed locations several times throughout the year, including locations on Sherbrook Street as well as Portage Avenue, where it currently resides.
In 2010, the five Guilds of the Children’s Hospital of Winnipeg – St. Agnes, St. John’s, Annie A. Bond, McKinnon, and Chown – amalgamated into a single entity to create the Children’s Hospital Guild of Manitoba.
