Biographical history

Maryland Street Methodist Church existed in Winnipeg from 1902 until 1925. Services originally began in a college located on Maryland Street between Sargent and Ellice in 1902. The congregation was officially organized under the name Maryland Street Methodist Church in 1903. That same year, construction began on a church building on the corner of Maryland Street and Sargent Avenue. The Maryland Street Methodist Church was officially opened in January 1904. The Sunday school grew quite large in the following years and a theatre and large hall were rented in order to accommodate the group. In 1925, Maryland Street Methodist Church joined the United Church of Canada to become Maryland United Church (I).
