Biographical history
Little Grand Rapids is a First Nations community located on the shores of Family Lake near the Manitoba-Ontario border, southeast of Berens River and 180 air miles northeast of Winnipeg. Initially, Little Grand Rapids was a station of the Berens River and Fisher River Methodist missions. There is some evidence that mission activities in the area began around 1902 with a permanent mission established in 1927, with the first service being held on August 28. In 1928, Luther L. Schuetze moved the mission one mile across Family Lake from the schoolhouse, where services had been previously held, and built a church. In 1965 and 1966 and again in 1968 the Conference of Mennonites was asked to provide ministry to the community. At other times during the 1960s the community was served by Lay Supply supervised from Bissett. In 1988, Little Grand Rapids United Church joined the All Native Circle Conference.
