Administrative history
St Cuthbert's Church, Lily Bay was opened 4 October 1908. It was modelled after St Cuthbert's Church in Great Salkeld, England, which had sent funds for the construction of the Lily Bay church. The church was consecrated by the Right Rev SP Matheson on 19 November 1911. The parish of St Cuthbert, Lily Bay was formed on 2 July 1915 by the Right Rev SP Matheson. A cemetery was consecrated later that year on 21 October. During its history, St Cuthbert was associated with St James, Seamo (OW.076), St John, Eriksdale (OW.025), and All Saints, Scotch Bay (OW.086). Services were often taken by student ministers. St Cuthbert was also served by the Bishop's Messengers. By the late 1960s, services were discontinued. The church fell into disuse and became the target of vandals. The bell was stolen, but eventually it was recovered and currently sits in the Eriksdale Museum. The church lands and cemetery were transferred to the Rural Municipality of Coldwell in 1997. St Cuthbert's was deconsecrated on 30 January 2000. The building was demolished and 27 August 2000, a cairn was dedicated where the church once stood.
