Name of creator
One of the first organised Methodist missions established in the Dauphin District was the Lake Dauphin Mission. The first missionary was appointed to the mission in 1888. The preaching points in 1895 included Ochre River, Gilbert Plains, and Lake Dauphin. Initially, the Lake Dauphin Mission was under the direction of the Birtle District but it was transferred to the Neepawa District in 1892.
The records of the Dauphin Pastoral charge came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of two transfers of records from the charge in 1996 and 1998. While the run of Sacramental Registers appears to be reasonably complete for most congregations there are significant gaps in the records of church management, such as the records of the Official Boards, Sessions and the Committees of Stewards. The records of Lay Associations, specifically women's groups, are usually more complete.
Scope and content
The fonds consists of documents created by the congregations of the Lake Dauphin Methodist Mission Field. Items described here consist of a Sacramental Register containing entries for the Lake Dauphin Methodist Mission Field, which includes baptism, marriage and burial entries for the period from 1890-1908 inclusive.
