Name of creator
Knox United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1925. The predecessor of Knox United Church was Knox Presbyterian Church. Knox United Church is located at 400 Edmonton Street. The church was designed by architect J.H.G. Russell and was completed in the spring of 1917. During the early 1930's, the church established an endowment fund that came to be known as the DuVal Foundation, in honour of the contributions made by Dr. Frederick B. DuVal to the congregation of Knox. The DuVal Foundation was incorporated by an Act of the Province of Manitoba in 1933. The fund eventually assisted the congregation with projects and initiatives on several occasions. Upon the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Knox Church in 1968, the DuVal Foundation provided the congregation with a new Casavant organ, which was dedicated to the members of the church who risked and sacrificed their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The congregation of Knox United has shared its facilities with the Japanese United Church congregation for many years. In 1993, the church celebrated its designation as a Historic Site within the province of Manitoba. Knox United Church is located at 400 Edmonton Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The records of Knox United Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records from The Rev. R. Stiven in 1984; and from several transfers of records from Knox United Church in 1981, 1989, 1999, and 2005.
