Administrative history

Knox Presbyterian Church existed in the Manitoba community of Cartwright from 1890 to 1920. The Presbyterian congregation of Cartwright organized a building committee in September of 1890. By December, construction of the frame church structure was complete. Cartwright Presbyterian Mission and later Knox Presbyterian Church served several surrounding communities, including Holmfield, North Derby, Mather and Chesterville. Knox Presbyterian Church joined in local union with Cartwright Methodist Church in 1920. In 1925, the congregation officially joined the United Church of Canada to become Cartwright United Church. The former Methodist Church structure served as the home to the united congregation and the former Presbyterian Church structure served as ahall and meeting place until it was eventually sold in the 1940s.

Custodial history

The records of Knox Presbyterian Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of two transfers of records from the Cartwright-Mather Pastoral Charge in 1978 and 1993.
