Name of creator
John Kaminski was born November 13, 1956 in Edmonton, Alberta, where began his dance training at the age of five. He initially studied tap and ballroom dancing, but was introduced to ballet after becoming a National Champion Ballroom Dancer. He studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts for five summers and was also a student at the Alberta School of Ballet and soon was performing as an apprentice and eventually a member of the Alberta Ballet. In 1976, he entered the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School Professional Division. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet in 1978, and was promoted to Soloist in 1980 and became a Principal Dancer in 1985. In 1987, a major reconstructive knee injury sidelined his career until February 1989, when he rejoined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. He retired from dancing in 1997 but remained with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as an Audio-Visual Technician and Production Assistant. He is currently the Maintenance Assistant at the RWB.
The records of John Kaminski came to the RWB archives as part of a transfer of records from the RWB.
