Biographical history
Joan Antoinette Kupchak was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba on 21 June 1945, and graduated from St. Boniface General Hospital in 1966. After two years as a Staff nurse at St. Boniface General Hospital she joined the Nursing staff at Children's Hospital of Winnipeg where she was staff nurse for 12 years. In 1976 she also became Nurse Educator, a role she held until 2000 and for the next eleven years she was a Health Educator and Nurse in Ontario as well as a General Duty Nurse in Children's Hospital Emergency at HSC Winnipeg. Joan Antoinette Kupchak died in Winnipeg on 11 May 2011.
Custodial history
The records of Joan Antoinette Kupchak were donated to the HSC Archives/Museum by Hal Kupchak (Joan's brother) via her colleague Rose Jacobson in June 2011.
Scope and content
The collection reflects the roles of Joan Antoinette Kupchak as a nursing student, staff nurse and educator while documenting her graduations, achievements, teaching activities, and affiliation with the Manitoba Association of Registered Nurses. The collection is arranged into four series and includes diplomas, certificates, correspondence, pieces of uniform, photographs, pins and various objects.
