Biographical history

Jaime Vargas was born in Mexico City, Mexico and began his dance training when he was fourteen years old at the Centro de Arte y Ballet in Mexico City. He also studied at the London Studio Centre in London and the Australian Ballet School. He made his professional debut in 1989 with the Compania Nacional de Danza in Mexico City. He received the silver medal at the Fifth international Dance Festival in Paris, France in 1992. He joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet as a Principal Dancer in 2004. After his retirement in 2011, he joined the RWB artistic staff as a Ballet Master. The following year, he also became the Community Outreach Coordinator.

Custodial history

The records of Jaime Vargas came to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Archives as a transfer of records from the RWB and were also collected by members of the RWB Alumni Association.

The Jaime Vargas fonds includes the following series: newspaper articles (2005-2010); biographical information (2004-[2013]); and photographs (1998-2006).
