University of Winnipeg Club fonds

Fonds consists of records generated by the operations of the University of Winnipeg Club, as a venue for the leisure of its members and for various booked events, as well as an incorporated business with a Board of Directors. The records are primarily comprised of minutes of the Board’s meetings and the Annual General Meeting; the official documentation of its incorporation status, its liquor license, its by-laws, some of its staff positions, catering contracts, and its lease with the University of Winnipeg; and also include ephemera and photographs from Club events, correspondence, lists of its members, and a technical drawing for a major renovation.

Charles Grant Marshall fonds

Fonds largely pertain to the design career of Grant Marshall, including teaching positions at the University of Manitoba (as well as many teaching slides) and private interior design business. Also features records pertaining to ballet costume design, fashion, and Marshall’s fashion boutique, The Third Step; Marshall’s artwork and exhibitions; primary, secondary, and post-secondary education; and personal records such as family photos and correspondence.

This collection consists of portfolios and notebooks kept by Stella and Gladys Sleigh while attending Brandon Normal School. The portfolios contain drawings and projects that the women made. The notebooks contain information about education in Manitoba in the early 20th century. There is also a portrait taken of Gladys Sleigh around 1920. There are also two Normal School portraits included in this collection. The collection also includes a notebook kept by Katherine Sinclair (McLean) which describes lessons given to prospective teachers at the Virden Normal School in the early 1890's.Katherine McLean also attended Normal School in the early 1890's, and was from Virden, Manitoba.

Pugh Family fonds

The collection was created by Margaret Pugh who organized and preserved the family's history. The fonds consists of materials from four families linked to the Pugh Family: Broderick, Wilson, Stewart and Pawling. The fonds includes a large amount of correspondance and other textual material dating back to the mid 19th century up to 1998. A large quantity of Postcards from the late 1800s to the post-war period make up the niche portion of the collection. Margaret's father, Frederick Pugh, worked in the Research Bureau of the T.E. Eaton Company through the early 1900s until 1938, included in the collection is correspondance between him and executives of the company. Also contained in the collection are textual records of Margaret's career at Deer Lodge Hospital. These records provide some insight into the administrative activities of the dietary department at the veteran's institution. In addition, Margaret's collection of cookbooks and recipes provide a comprehensive insight into gendered domestic consumption and advertising in the post-war period. Overall, the records provide a vivid illustration of the activities of a family clan that lived in Southern Ontario during the 19th century and Winnipeg during and after the Edwardian period.

Fonds consists of two invitations to the Fireman's Annual Ball, and a photograph of a group ladies and children of the Melbourne district. Identities of the ladies are: Standing, L to R: Jessie Hannah, Mrs. Nellie Calvert, Agnes Coltart, Isabella Coltart, Clara Knowlden (nee Braden), Mrs. Jane Nish, Mrs. Jessie Graham, Helen Nish, Ellen Cowan, Christine McDonald (owner of Melbourne Store) Front: Vivian McDonald, daughter of Christie McDonald, Ella Elmhirst (Donna Elmhirst on knee), Anna Jean McDonald, Joyce Graham. Also, 14 B&W photos of the John G Brown farmstead, building, family and threshing scenes. Mrs. Brown has written identification and other information on the reverse of the photos
