Hazel (Mattson) Love fonds

  • CMC PHO-C8
  • Fonds
  • [ca.1880]-1918

Most of these photographs are portraits dating from the late 19th and early 20th century and are typical of the period. The subjects are children and adults, couples and families. Several are taken out of doors and feature family groups posed in front of a building, probably their home. One features a group of people in a horse drawn carriage. Another features a group posed in what appears to be a park. Photographer's imprints from several Midwestern states confirm the Mattson family history. Also included is a portrait of a couple, identified as Joseph and Hazel Love, on their wedding day in 1918. An unusual early 20th century portrait included in this collection features an unidentified young woman in ethnic costume. The portrait is hand coloured with aspects of the subject's costume highlighted in machine embroidery.
