HR Materials

Series documents the growth of the Department of Dietetics orientation program over the course of the 1960’s. The files contain Dietetics Department employee information manuals, the salary guide for Canada and Manitoba professional associations, job descriptions and standards of practice for the profession. All the records were all kept as reference or master copies created to better administer the Dietetics Department. The new focus on departmental standards and employee education is thanks largely to Alva Gross as the Director of Dietetics 1963-1974. Her mandate as Director was to supervise and assist in the growth of the department with a specific focus on education. The examples found in the files served as master copies for the Director and Administration to use to create successive editions for employee orientations.

Newsletters

Series is an artificial creation consolidated by the archivist. Series documents the Department of Dietetics internal newsletters organized by year. The newsletters began as WGH Department of Dietetics Newsletter which acknowledged new and evolving facilities, operations of the department and news of the alumni. It was used to communicate staff changes, the progress of the interns but the primary function was intended to be communication with alumni.
As of 1973 and the creation of the Health Science Centre the Department of Dietetics Newsletter name was changed to the Health Sciences Centre Department of Dietetics Newsletter. In 1975 the department began going to a quarterly newsletter called the Feeders Digest to provide some relief for the editors. The Department of Dietetics Newsletter in all forms was discontinued in 1978 due to lack of interest from the alumni.
In 1999, the department published a new newsletter. Initially titled “What’s My Name??”, the newsletter was given an official title in its second issue, “Nutrition & Food Services – Tidbits”, a title which was picked from staff suggestions. The newsletter included a message from the Divisional Director, Colleen Koch McDonald and provided information on department activities, personnel changes, marriages and births among staff members, procedures, intern news, recipes.
