Old Labels Little Northern Museum

This series consists of old exhibit labels from the Little Northern Museum and the Sam Waller Museum. Labels were most likely created under Sam Waller and/or Paul Thistle. No dates are associated with any of the file.

Sam Waller Little Northern Museum, 1978-1983

This series consists of records from the Sam Waller Little Northern Museum following the death of Sam Waller in March 1978. This series covers records and documentation created by the Sam Waller Museum from April 1978 - 1983 (staffed by Vernon Wong and Pat Plaxton). Records consist mainly of correspondence, annual reports, incomplete board meeting minutes, and miscellaneous documentation filed under administration. The original lack of organization of these records resulted in the need to reconstruct hypothetical series arranged as correspondence inward by correspondent and outward by date. Correspondence received from individuals working in institutions is filed alphabetically by name of the institution.

Correspondence

This series contains correspondence created and received by Sam Waller from 1919 until his death in 1978. The subjects covered in the correspondence are numerous, including regular correspondence with the Manitoba Museum regarding specimen acquisition, identification and trade, as well as regular correspondence with other natural history enthusiast, missionaries, businesses and various government bodies. Many files also contain associated material, including newspaper clippings and permits.

The Pas Scouts collection

Collection consists of correspondence, record books, scrapbooks and clippings regarding scouting activities in The Pas, and the minutes of the founding meeting of the second The Pas Scout Troop, listing members of the committee and election of officers.

Series one consists of blank forms, instructional booklets, and other undated materials produced by or given to the Friends of the Sam Waller Museum.

Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival collection

The Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival collection consists of various records from several Trappers’ Festivals hosted in The Pas including financial records from 1948 – 1955 and 1983, correspondence from 1949, 1955 and 1983, a record book from 1950 – 1955 containing dates and notations on various events, Trappers’ Festival ephemera from 1980 – 1981 and 1983- 1984 including programmes and newspaper clippings, and festival notes and reports from 1954 – 1955 and 1983.

Nature Notes

This series consists of notes on nature created by Sam Waller since his placement in Moose Factory, 1923, through to 1977. These notes include specimen records for mammals and birds in his collections, species lists for birds observed in a particular area, a rough manuscript for an article on the Canada Jay, permits for hunting migratory birds, and even a key to Sam’s collections.

This series consists of various administrative, financial, and correspondence records from the year 2000 for the Friends of the Sam Waller Museum.
