Victor Deneka fonds

This fonds consists of Victor Deneka’s biographical information; correspondence, minute books, congress and conference reports, bulletins, newsletters, newspaper clippings, and a wide assortment of photographs and slides that reflect his activity as a founder and executive member of several Ukrainian-Canadian student (“Obnova,” “S.U.S.K.”), community (Ukrainian Canadian Committee/Congress, Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko), academic (Ukrainian Free Academy of Arts and Sciences) and especially Ukrainian Catholic (Ukrainian Catholic Council of Canada, Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood) organizations; research materials concerning Ukrainian church architecture in Canada; and publications and slides that chronicle his professional work as the designer and architect of Ukrainian Catholic churches in Manitoba. In particular, the fonds contain unique primary sources on the origins and history of the Ukrainian Catholic Council of Canada (and its affiliated organizations) from the mid-1940s through the early 1990s, and on the origins of the Ukrainian-Canadian student movement during the early 1950s.

The fonds consist of 6 boxes of textual records that have been divided into the following series: programs, IMFC events, IMFC correspondence, IMFC Board of Directors, IMFC meetings, and IMFC publications. The fonds also consists of 3 boxes of photographs and 1 box of electronic records. The content of the textual records portray a number of donations and requests, significant correspondence from programs, Annual General Meetings, and events such as the Lighthouse project, Healthy baby, annual pow-wows, wall of honour and a brief history of the centre itself.

Owen Clark Collection

The collection consists of material relating to Winnipeg and its music history, particularly its jazz, blues, and big band music from the late 1890s to 2007. This material was used by Clark in Musical Ghosts: Manitoba’s Jazz and Dance Bands, 1914-1966. As well, the collection includes vintage photographs and related material on Winnipeg-based musicians, music and dance venues, and the bands, singers and performers who worked in these establishments. The collection also records the architecture of dance halls and clubs in Winnipeg and in Manitoba and Saskatchewan towns. In addition, social and cultural activities in Manitoba are represented in the descriptions recorded on many of the photographs. The collection contains digital, visual and audio media of interviews and musical sessions by musicians captured in many of the photographs.

The main body of the Owen Clark Collection contains records given to Owen Clark or records from his private collection. It also contains a bound scrapbook that was compiled by Manuel Finkelman, a dancer at the Orpheum Theatre from 1922-1923. It contains newspaper clippings (many from The Winnipeg Tribune) documenting the entertainment scene in Winnipeg, Manitoba, especially the Orpheum Theatre and vaudeville acts from 1921-1927. The scrapbook was discovered by Gene Shelley (Eugene Schibler) during demolition of the Theatre in 1948 and given to Owen Clark around 2004.

Textual records and ephemera in the Collection include local band business cards, newspaper clippings, music magazines, telegraphs, letters, menus from restaurants in Winnipeg, achievement certificates, and newsletters, among other items.

This fonds consists of two accessions in eleven series: the first is composed of books and other publications, materials removed from those books, CDs, and artifacts relating to dowsing (stored in an oversize box); the second is composed of several unpublished works of George W. Meek (ca. 1984-96), correspondence and other materials removed from Reed's books still held at SRIC, publications, and sound recordings.

The fonds consists of some personal records of Stefan Baliński, including a copy of his birth certificate and baptismal record; records relating to his military service and participation in the Warsaw Uprising; records relating to his receipt of various military medals and other awards and recognitions; some records relating to his work with Radio Polonia on CKJS 810 in Winnipeg; newspaper clippings and various ephemera collected by Stefan Baliński; some correspondence; and a few event programs for events hosted by the Winnipeg branch of the Polish Canadian Congress (Kongres Polonii Kanadyjskiej) from the 1970s. Finally, there is a number of photographs of Stefan Baliński dating back to his time in the Second World War; however, these are only rough copies of the originals, as the originals themselves were not included in the donation.

The first accessions (A.90-20, A.90-38, A.0-48, A.91-54) are divided into three series: personal, publications, and politics. The personal series contains Holt's university essays. The publication series contains material pertaining to Holt's four published books and her newspaper career. Politics contains her correspondence as an MP.

The second accession (A.05-53) is divided into thirty-one series. They include biographical information and journals, Leon Holt material, Milner family, writing and research, unpublished material and manuscripts, her autobiography material, Johnathan Pollard research material, First Force manuscript, Council for the Damned manuscript, child violence research, drug research, women's research, justice system research, research material on Asia, Democratic Party research, National Parole Board, Liberal Party material, miscellaneous research, her articles, speeches and workshops, television projects and courses taught, academic material, awards, House of Commons, correspondence, lawsuits and complaints, writing by others, oversize material, map cabinet material, photographs, and tapes.

The third accession (A.07-14) is divided into five series and contains material pertaining to the court case Supreme Court of British Columbia - Simma Holt v. Thomson aka Sonja d. Fletcher Coronation Real Estate Services Ltd. d.b.a. Royal Lepage Coronation West Realty, and Ada Van Leeuwen.

The fourth accession (A.10-88) is divided into 8 series. They include: biographical & family material, diaries & journals, manuscripts & columns, correspondence, Gerald Eaton murder case, leaky condo material, photo collection (PC 103) and tape collection TC 103).
