After publication of her first novel, Nellie McClung subscribed to a clipping service which provided her will any news articles which reviewed the book. This continued with the publication of 'The Second Chance', and in this case the British version of the same. These reviews she kept in scrapbooks which are now in the 0010 Nellie McClung Fond at the Royal British Columbia Archive.

This handwritten rough draft of an address to Premier Roblin may have been fictional and it may have been the draft of an address which McClung did deliver.

Nellie McClung wrote this back story at the request of one of her publishers in preparation for an article promoting subsequent books. It gives hints as to where McClung found inspiration for some of her characters.
