Abe Arnold fonds

Fonds consists of records of Abe Arnold relating to his research into Jewish Canadian history, as well as his writing about human rights, racism and Israeli politics.

Records relating to Jewish Canadian history include photocopies of original documents about early settlers, the Canadian government and colonization organizations. Also included are historical articles by Abe Arnold and others.

Articles written by Arnold for a variety of publications are on the subjects of human rights, racism, Jewish Canadian history and Israeli politics.

Also included are family and personal documents, such as his parents’ marriage certificate, his own school report cards and his last will and testament.

Anne Slonim fonds

Fonds consists of records created or acquired by Anne Slonim as part of her involvement with numerous Jewish organizations in Winnipeg. The organizations include the Jewish Women’s Musical Club, I.L. Peretz School and Hadassah. Records include programs, invitations, scripts, music scores and meeting minutes.

Records from the I.L. Peretz school include invitations and programs for luncheons and other events, newspaper clippings and minutes of the Muter Farein Council. Jewish Community Choir, Jewish Musical club and Pioneer Women records include invitations, programs, scripts and clippings. Also includes Hadassah Cookbooks and a program for the Hebrew Fraternal Lodge 50th anniversary.

Bay family fonds

Fonds consists of personal and professional records of Charles and Frances Bay and their families. Records relate to Frances’ acting career, Chuck’s work in the retail fashion business, personal photographs and genealogical research.

A large number of the records relate to Frances Bay’s acting career. These records include professional and on-set photographs, scripts for plays, movies and television programs in which she appeared and reviews of these works. These records mostly relate to her later career that began in the late 1970s and ended shortly before her death in 2011. Also included are awards she received for her work including a Gemini Award.

Personal records records include photographs of Chuck and Frances Bay and family members throughout their lives. These photographs depict their parents, their childhood and early married life, their son Josh. Many of the photographs depict numerous vacations taken between the late 1980s and the 2000s to various destinations in Europe, Southeast Asia, Israel and Egypt. Photographs also include family gatherings such as birthdays and family reunions.

A small number of records relate to Chuck Bay’s career in the retail fashion industry. These include newspaper clippings about his career, photographs of the Furchgott’s department store in Jacksonville, Florida where Chuck was General Manager, and copies of Chuck’s resume. Some of the European travel photographs appear to depict a goose farm and processing facility for his later business producing down comforters.

Chuck Bay researched the genealogy of the Bay, Goffman and Averbach families. Records of this research include detailed family trees, copies of photographs from various sources, correspondence with family members and copies of archival documents from several different institutions. These records include originals and photocopies apparently made during the 1990s and 2000s.

Beth Israel Synagogue fonds

Fonds consists of records of Beth Israel Synagogue including meeting minutes; marriage, cemetery and circumcision registers; and publications.

Meeting minutes include those of the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and of the Sisterhood of Beth Israel. The minutes cover all aspects of the synagogue’s operations including religious services and rituals, building management, finances, fundraising, staffing and social events.

Published records of the synagogue include programs for the building’s consecration as well as its 10th and 20th anniversaries, bulletins and notices and a children’s cookbook.

Other records include a scrapbook of newspaper clippings regarding the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association and the founding of Beth Israel and interviews with residents of HSBA gardens at its opening.

Fonds consists of records of B.J. Ginsburg reflecting his writing career, his work as a physician and his involvement with the Yiddish arts community in Winnipeg. These records include manuscripts of short stories, essays and his novel Generation Passeth Generation Goeth as well as clippings of articles written by Ginsberg. Records relating to his medical career include a survey about Mount Carmel Clinic and correspondence with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba. Other records relate to his immigration from Russia and his business interests in a Kenora mine.

B'nai Brith Jewish Community Camp fonds

Fonds consists of records of the Interim Camping Commission relating to its temporary management of the B’Nai Brith Camp and its creation of a new permanent body to operate the camp. Records include meeting minutes of the committee, correspondence with the Winnipeg Jewish Community Council, the YMHA and other relevant organizations and a draft constitution of the new organization. Also included are operating budgets for the camp and architectural drawings of existing and proposed infrastructure.
