Minutes and Agendas

Series 2 contains the minutes and agendas of meetings including the annual national meetings held by the Congress of Black Women of Canada, and, primarily, the monthly meetings held by the Congress of Black Women of Manitoba. The level of detail contained in the agenda and minutes can vary greatly. Generally, they contain a brief outline of the meeting’s agenda, list of membership attendance at the meeting, a summary of the discussions and voting held at the meeting, including notice and discussion of events and relevant causes, and, sometimes, detailed reports from the elected officers, such as the President and the Treasurer, on the state of affairs of the Congress.

Events and Workshops

Series 4 contains records related to events and workshops sponsored by the Congress, or related organizations and government departments and agencies. Some of the records include minutes and agendas of planning meetings and/or the event and workshop, reports on workshops, manuals and information packets for conducting workshops, and notices and programs of events and workshops. The workshops concerned a broad number of issues, but anti-racism workshops and workshops against family violence and violence against women were some of the most prevalent. Some of the more frequent events included Black History Month celebrations, Women’s history celebrations, Kwanzaa, Congress anniversary dinners and Congress fundraisers and socials.

External Publications

Series 6 contains external publications, and mainly consists of newsletters and reports created by related organizations and government agencies and departments. Some of the reports focus on the Caribbean community in Manitoba, multiculturalism, women’s health, and violence against women. The newsletters were published by the Manitoba Intercultural Council, Manitoba Culture & Heritage, The Winnipeg Core Area Initiative, the Manitoba Action Committee on the Status of Women, Caribe, and Global Eyes Magazine.
