Research Materials

Series 5 contains publications and information resources that were collected by the Congress. Many pertain to black history, human rights, racism, and other related issues. Materials include posters, pamphlets and brochures, newspaper clippings, news releases or statements, and declarations.

Wesmen seasons

Series consists of material related to the annual activities of the Wesmen and the University of Winnipeg’s Athletics department. Most of the series is made up of records generated by the University for its athletic season in basketball and volleyball, corresponding with the academic year – media releases, souvenir programs, and season schedules; as well as its annual Athletic Awards. It includes similar records from the tournaments in which the Wesmen teams played: both hosted by the University of Winnipeg, such as the Midway Chrysler Invitational, and by other institutions around Canada, such as the Naismith Classic at Waterloo University or the Pinky Lewis Invitational at McMaster University. Furthermore, it includes media and statistics from the athletic leagues of which the Wesmen were a part: particularly the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (previously Great Plains Athletic Conference) and USports (previously Canadian Interuniversity Sport, and Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union). The series also contains a smaller amount of material related to awards received by the Wesmen or its staff, particularly long-time coach and Athletics Director Bill Wedlake: including the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Sports Hall of Fame. Series is arranged chronologically, with most of the records arranged by the academic year (and corresponding athletic season) during which they were generated.

Events and Workshops

Series 3 includes materials created or collected as part of planning, promoting, or hosting events and workshops organized by members of the Congress, including Family Violence Workshops, Festivals of Art & Culture, Cultural Awareness Workshops, conferences, and Unity Dinners. Materials include programs, guest books, event proposals, and invitations. Also included are evaluations of events, and invitations and programs for external events that were attended or participated-in by members of the Congress.

A member of the Congress was part of researching and curating a 1996 exhibit at the Manitoba Museum called Back Tracks to Railway Ties, and the transcripts of oral history interviews conducted as part of the project and other related materials are also included in this series.

Electronic Records

Series 8 consists of CDs and DVDs. Discs mainly contain photos and recordings of proceedings taken at events sponsored by the Congress or attended by its members. Other files include PowerPoint presentations, posters and other promotional materials, sound recordings, and meeting minutes.

Series 2 consists of both incoming and outgoing correspondence regarding events, workshops, multicultural initiatives, and other topics or events in which members of the Congress were interested or involved. Also included in this series are invitations, greeting cards, memos between organizations or members of the Congress, nominations, letters of support and thanks, and other materials related to correspondence such as reports, presentations, information about meetings, funding information, program proposals, surveys, budget info, and programs and brochures.

Research Projects

Series is comprised of records from the research projects funded and published by PWHCE. The research projects represent the primary function of PWHCE: sponsoring and producing original scholarship about women’s health and health policy. The projects have a particular focus on underrepresented or vulnerable categories of women, and the concept of Gender-Based Analysis is central to their methodologies. The research was performed through collaboration with a variety of other health and community organizations. They were primarily funded through PWHCE by the Women’s Health Contribution Program, and were selected by PWHCE committees from among a number of applicants. The records include documents from the process of planning, funding, producing, and disseminating the research projects, and in most cases, a bound and published final report for the project.
