#1 Conflict, Violence and War

The material in this series is comprised of a wide variety of types of records, especially news media sources. Most of the records included in this series were collected, rather than originated, by Carl Ridd. The series contains records that pertain to conflict, violence and war with a strong focus on Canadian and – especially – American involvement. Prominent topics covered in the series include ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians, wars in Vietnam and Yugoslavia, Canadian foreign policy and involvement in international conflicts, Ridd’s anti-war stance (brought on more by the nature of the conflicts than pacifist theology), violence in society, the Cold War and the role of the United States as an imperialist nation or rogue state in international affairs.

#12B Christine Lamont and David Spencer Case

A wide variety of records make up the series, many of which were originated or gathered by members of the Lamont family and passed on to Carl Ridd. The sub-series gathers together records documenting the [allegedly unfair] detainment of Christine Lamont and David Spencer in Brazil in relation to a kidnapping ring. Prominent issues include the nature of Lamont and Spencer’s involvement in the kidnapping (and thus their guilt or innocence), lobbying by a group in Canada to have Lamont and Spencer returned to Canada and (predominantly) the unjustness of the sentence levelled against Lamont and Spencer by Brazilian authorities.

#14 Disparate Records

A wide variety of types of records make up the series. Many of the records have been collected, rather than originated, by Carl Ridd. The series gathers together a group of records that do not appear to have any topical or chronological cohesiveness. It is unclear how Ridd had used, or intended to use, the records as they appear in the folders. The records pertain to a wide variety of topics that include Ridd’s intellectual, ministerial and social justice interests.
