Manitoba Cattle Producers Association fonds

The fonds consists of the Manitoba Cattle Producers Association's records, in its many different incarnations, and other related material dating as far back as 1924. The records consist of correspondence, memorandums, news releases, committee minutes and agendas, reports, directories and membership lists, journals and articles, surveys and results, handbooks, pamphlets, regulations, symposium proceedings, resolutions, by-laws, commissions and acts, newsletters, speeches, financial records, taxation records, promotional correspondence, and policies and records of affiliated associations and government agencies. In addition to these textual records, the collection also contains photographs, videotapes, a filmstrip, and computer diskettes.

Arthur T. "Art" Puttee fonds

Fonds contains one hockey goaltender stick used by Art Puttee while goalie for the Canadian hockey team (the University of Manitoba Grads) that won the 1931 World Championships in Krynica, Poland. Handwritten on one side of the handle is the text, "Winners of Turnbull Cup (Manitoba Champ), Abbott Cup (Western Canada Champ), Ross Robertson Memorial Cup (Canadian Champ). Played 21 games, won 17, tied 3, lost 1." On the outer edge of the handle is the text, "Total goals - for 113 - against 36." Other side of the handle has Art Puttee's signature. Signatures of other players are partially visiable across other parts of the stick; legible names include Doupe, Murdoch, and Chapman.

Jellis Family fonds

The fonds consists of farm records, legal documents, geneaological information, diaries, photographs, and memorabilia pertaining to the Jellis family farm. The material contains a variety of land deeds and titles, oil leases and indentures, grain Permit Books, bills and receipts for farm equipment, and diary entries relating to the Jellis's agricultural operation which complements the repository's other holdings and will interest anyone involved in agricultural research, particularly in Southwest Manitoba. Six letters between an American and Canadian Jellis cousin during World War I are of particular interest.

John Smithurst fonds (Henry Budd Letters)

The fonds consists of 17 letters from Reverend Henry Budd to the Reverend John Smithurst about the conditions in Cumberland and the Pas in Northern Manitoba during the period 1841 to 1851. Budd discusses conditions of the mission, relating information about supplies, the weather, the response of the natives to religious instruction and other daily details of missionary life.

The collection has remained in its original order.

The fonds is entirely focused on the creation of the National Research Centre on Indian Residential Schools Proposal by the University of Manitoba’s National Research Centre Bid Committee to obtain the records of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. The subject matter of the records includes: privacy, access and intellectual property; legal agreements and settlement agreements; mandate of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission; past and present Aboriginal presence on campus; Aboriginal representation samples; Residential Schools in Canada: locations, research, intergenerational suffering; Aboriginal presence within other University or cultural heritage institutions. The records are in the following various formats: newspaper clippings, emails, settlement agreements, mandates, pamphlets, booklets, drawings, talks, drafts, statistics, reports, letters, invitations, agenda and meeting minutes, budgets, research, maps, funding applications, proposals, and two DVD’s.

Cohnstaedt Family fonds

The papers consist of: 1/Cohnstaedt family documents, including copies of birth, marriage and death certificates; fragments of family correspondence; a diary/photo album, ca. 1927; family trees; xerox copies of newspaper clippings on the family’s history; and a large number of German-language librettos and booklets on opera. 2/ Correspondence, grant applications, reading lists, research notes, newspaper issues and clippings, and a book manuscript produced by Wilhelm Cohnstaedt (1880-1937), senior editor of the Frankfurter Zeitung, during his final sojourn in the United States (1933-1937). And, above all, 3/ the personal documents, correspondence, student papers and doctoral dissertation, petition for naturalization, scholarly research papers and reports, and documents concerning community development work and disputes withthe University of Regina produced by Martin Cohnstaedt (1917-2002), a professorof sociology at several colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
