The records in the A. Gerald Bedford fonds are those of two accessions: Accession 07.004 and Accession 10.001. Accession 07.004 contains records that were given to Bedford by Edith Baragar, as well as historical material collected by Bedford as he conducted research for his books. Accession 10.001 contains primarily records that were created or collected by Bedford throughout his education and academic career. These records begin with those created by Bedford during his undergraduate degree at United College, and encompass the following 50-plus years that Bedford spent studying, teaching, researching, writing and publishing. Accession 10.01 also includes the historical records of George Bryce and William J. Rose, collected by Bedford and donated to the archives along with his own materials.

A. Lee Gibson fonds

The fonds reflects Gibson's involvement in United College as a student and an alumna. The 2015 accession consists of a songbook written by Gibson's 1954 classmate, Gilbert Munroe. The 2016 accession consists of publications, pamphlets, a script, letters, newspaper clippings, photographs, programmes, maps of the University of Winnipeg campus, and pins. The fonds include correspondence and financial records with the University of Winnipeg pertinent to the activities of the Entrance Scholarship Program. Photographs consist of Lee Gibson's time as a student at United College and as an alumna.

The records in this series are those created or collected by Bedford throughout his academic career. These records detail Bedford’s role as a faculty member of United College; professor of English and Mathematics; University historian; active participant in university athletics, conferences, and faculty committees; examiner and adjudicator for Winnipeg schools; and one of the founding members of the Association of University Teachers of English. This series contains the sub-series Course Materials, Faculty Records, Professional Associations, Professional Correspondence, and Addresses and Writings.

Series consists of receipts for all kinds of college expenses -- from renovations & repairs, to sundries, to wood for heating. Includes also some outlying documents regarding insurance appraisals, mortgages, and property management that might better belong in MC-6. Series is arranged somewhat arbitrarily into by date into six chronologically overlapping boxes, and alphabetized within by the individuals or corporate body issuing the receipt.

Action!

Series consists of the newsletter published by MACSW, Action. Action was published monthly until 1994, after which it was published bimonthly. The newsletter communicated information about the committee’s beliefs and activities with its members and shared resources and literature on women’s issues. The series also contains page proofs from the years 1978-1980 and one folder of printed headlines and keywords used in producing the proofs.

This sub-series includes articles, addresses, reviews, introductions, and histories written by Bedford during his academic career.

Administration, minutes, and resources

Series consists of records generated by MACSW itself, related to its administration, finances, committees, and event-planning. Records include minutes, financial documentation, member lists, grant applications, and ephemera. Series also includes a small amount of similar records from the National Action Committee of which MACSW was a branch: minutes of the Annual General Meetings and others, reports, and correspondence.

Advocacy

Series consists of records related to MACSW’s activism and lobbying on several kinds of issues: welfare, privacy, child care and support, reproductive rights, pornography, and domestic violence. The records include petitions, correspondence, faxes, posters, and press releases, as well as the research collected to support and inform the work. The records also include notes and correspondence concerning individual legal cases, fundraising efforts, and other women’s groups.
