Cohnstaedt Family fonds

The papers consist of: 1/Cohnstaedt family documents, including copies of birth, marriage and death certificates; fragments of family correspondence; a diary/photo album, ca. 1927; family trees; xerox copies of newspaper clippings on the family’s history; and a large number of German-language librettos and booklets on opera. 2/ Correspondence, grant applications, reading lists, research notes, newspaper issues and clippings, and a book manuscript produced by Wilhelm Cohnstaedt (1880-1937), senior editor of the Frankfurter Zeitung, during his final sojourn in the United States (1933-1937). And, above all, 3/ the personal documents, correspondence, student papers and doctoral dissertation, petition for naturalization, scholarly research papers and reports, and documents concerning community development work and disputes withthe University of Regina produced by Martin Cohnstaedt (1917-2002), a professorof sociology at several colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

Cette collection de photographies documente de multiples aspects de la vie des collectivités francophones et des Métis dans l'Ouest canadien. On y trouve des photographies d'un grand nombre d'individus et de familles, des endroits où ont habités ou oeuvrés des francophones et des Métis ainsi qu'une grande variété d'activités et d'événements qui ont marqués l'histoire de l'Ouest canadien. Les photographies de ce fonds illustrent en outre divers édifices qui se sont élevés dans ces communautés et comprend aussi des dessins, caricatures ou photographies de manuscrits qui illustrent des événements marquants des provinces de l'Ouest. Finalement, parmi les documents textuels déposés par le Musée on retrouve des vieux catéchismes ayant appartenus à Gaston Bohémier, des partitions de musique de H.S. Waller pour piano, des albums de coupures de presse et une partition manuscrite de la CHANSON DES MÉTIS dont les paroles ont été écrites par Louis Riel. Les DVD contiennent des images numérisées des objets du Musée de Saint-Boniface.

The South Western Manitoba Loyal Orange Lodge fonds consists of many certificates of membership; certificates of good standing; applications for admission; correspondence between local lodges and grand lodges; newsletters; pamphlets and brochures; annual returns; ledgers; minute books; and roll books. The fonds is divided into the following series: Membership: Certificates, 1841-1969; Membership: Membership Lists and Roll Books, 1904-1986; Financial Records: Ledgers, 1882-1986; Financial Records: Annual Returns, 1934-1977; Minutes, 1889-1985; Correspondence, 1904-1989; Publications, 1915-1995; and Miscellaneous, 1927-1981.

The collection consists of material created by and belonging to the Shewan and Malcolm families. Materials include one photograph, one certificate, books, handwritten letters, and other handwritten notes. There are multiple cookbooks, a family Bible, a personal notebook, a book of poetry, and other religious texts. The majority of the handwritten letters belonged to Catherine Shewan (nee Malcolm), and discuss the genealogy of the Malcolm family. Other handwritten materials include testimonials to the teaching ability of James Malcolm. Each item is described in detail at the individual level on the Daly House Museum database.

Ce fonds contient un peu plus de 2 000 pages de correspondance manuscrite ainsi qu'une nécrologie parue dans le Métis en 1881. On y trouve aussi une courte biographie de Forget composée par Robert Painchaud. Cependant, le fonds contient surtout de la correspondance de la part des amis de Forget venant surtout du Collège de Montréal ou de la maison-mère des Soeurs Grises de Montréal. Dans sa correspondance, Forget décrit ses voyages ainsi que ses déboires causés par sa maladie et son désir intense de joindre les rangs des religieux. Cette correspondance nous permet aussi de retracer une partie de l'histoire du Collège de Saint-Boniface et de l'Université du Manitoba. En outre, on y trouve une bonne quantité d'information portant sur les activités du Collège de Montréal et des zouaves pontificaux.

Les versements de ce fonds comprennent de nombreux documents comptables et financiers dont de la correspondance, des factures et des comptes divers documentant les transactions financières de la paroisse de Saint-Norbert et la succession de l'abbé Noël-Joseph Ritchot. Un des registres contient une liste d'élèves de 1858-1859. Certains dossiers documentent la gestion des biens mobiliers et immobiliers de la paroisse. On y trouve aussi un relevé du registre de l'Asile Ritchot, et un relevé d'un registre sacramentel des confirmations et des bulletins paroissiaux (1921 à 2009).

William John Burchill Family Collection

The material in this collection belonged to the Burchill/Stoll family. The collection includes photographs, paintings, books, written records, genealogical records, letters, and other documents. The majority of the photographs are of the William J. Burchill family of Brandon, Manitoba. There are many pictures of family and friends, especially of Burchill's daughters in childhood and youth; some are casual photographs and others are formal portraits. Photographs are from family events, weddings, social gatherings, school, and during recreational activities. Also included are photographs of Edith Burchill Stoll's family and friends during her adult life after moving to Illinois. Each photograph is described at the individual level. There are three albums of photographs and the rest are separate. Also included in the collection are portraits of members of the Gibson and McEvoy families. Two of these are oil paintings. There are also prints and needle work. There are books in the collection which belonged to different members of the Burchill Family. These include Bibles, prayer books, a hymn book, an atlas, personal notebooks, and collections of poetry. The collection also contains genealogical records, correspondence, and written histories pertaining to the Burchill family history and to the history of the Canadian Prairies. Other documents include, will and funeral records; birth, marriage and death certificates; letters, postcards, obituaries, and newspaper clippings.

The fonds consists of press clippings glued over pages of a bound volume of Sessional Papers for 1863. It includes newspaper clippings regarding Canadian politics and government from The Daily Globe, Ottawa Citizen, Free Press, The Gazette, The Toronto Mail, Irish Canadian, The Ottawa Times, The Brockville Monitor, The Patriot, Daily Witness, and Merrickville Chronicle. The clippings are not arranged in any apparent order.
