The fonds consists of Dr. Joan Finkle de Peña’s manuscripts, articles and lecture notes pertaining to her academic teaching career at St. Louis University, and the University of Manitoba. The fonds also consists of material pertaining to her research in Puerto Rico when she was a graduate student, as well as a her academic research work with her studies of the Inuit of the North, during her tenure as a faculty member with the Department of Anthropology, University of Manitoba. In addition there are textual records pertaining to her involvement with various national and international professional associations, including the Sigma Xi Scientific Society. The collection also contains a total of 4624 photographs, 90 negatives, and 1,125 photo slides.

Contents include photos and slides principally of the Klondike during the gold rush era (1897-1902), Government House seating plans and speeches from a wide variety of events (1912-1934), correspondence of McGregor's, primarily from his time as Lieutenant Governor (1912-1934), a (23 3/4 oz.) gold bag, a state publication "Instructions for Lieutenant Governors", documents pertaining to the history of the Manitoba Winter Fair, and documents dealing with the early career of Winston Churchill.

Truth and Reconciliation Web Collection

The Truth and Reconciliation Web Collection consists of 285 archived websites pertaining to Manitoba’s ongoing involvement in the reconciliation process as defined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The collection content pertains to a diverse range of topics, including Survivors’ stories, apologies, responses, cultural events, and more. The media captured in the collection includes web pages, blogs, news coverage, and PDF files. The collection will continue to grow as Manitoba witnesses new forms of reconciliation. The collection is curated using the University of Winnipeg’s subscription to the Internet Archive service Archive-It. Captures of archived websites are created using the Internet Archive’s Heritrix and Wayback Machine tools. All captures of the archived web sites are hosted on Internet Archive servers.

William Hespeler fonds

This fonds contains documents pertaining to the life of William Hespeler, such as confirmation of attending the Polytechnic Institute in Karlsruhe (1847-1849), of deferment from military service in 1850, of immigration to Canada, and of naturalization as a British subject. The fonds includes the items taken to Russia in 1872 (i.e. responses from Ottawa to the Russian Mennonite inquiries about priveledges been sought such as exemption from military service). The fonds also contains various items with the autographs of individuals such as Otto von Bismark, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Prussia, and the British monarch, Queen Victoria. The documents pertain to Hespeler's service to Canada or Germany.

The bulk of this collection falls into five main categories: records dealing with the Brandon Packers Strike of 1960 and the subsequent legal actions against the owners, including all 2215 pages of the Brandon Packers Strike Commission; records dealing with the Commission of Inquiry into The Pas Forestry and Industrial Complex, including the complete transcript of the inquiry measuring approximately 5m (This Commission dealt with the conduct of Churchill Forest Industries, a company owned by a Swiss financial firm, which, in the 1960's, was given approximately 93 million dollars by the Roblin Provincial Government to develop The Pas Forestry and Industrial Complex. Churchill Forest Industries and its parent company subsequently came under suspicion of fraud and accused of fradulently transfering The Pas Forestry funds into other foreign business interests); records dealing with business loans awarded by the Manitoba Development Corporation during the 1970's and 1980's to businesses primarily within Manitoba; records dealing with McKenzie Seeds, and McKenzie Steele-Briggs Seeds during the early 1980's when George MacDowell was a board member of McKenzie Seeds; and records dealing with Professor MacDowell's career as a Professor at Brandon University, including records relating to his courses and to administrative activities. To a lesser extent, this collection includes records dealing with the University of Saskatchewan College of Commerce, the publication the Manitoba New Democrat, issues associated with politics, labor and union in the prairie provinces from the 1960's to the 1980's, articles from various economic periodicals including Economica and Public Finance, a variety of government reports from 1941 to 1981, and records dealing with George MacDowells' relationship with the Brandon Firefighters Association.

This fonds consists of material on the aboriginal history, culture, education, health, housing, and politics. Walter Rudnicki was an active participant in many of the subjects collected by him in the course of his life. In the most cases, this material is organized into themes and contains correspondence, government documents, reports, press releases, newspaper clippings, and documents of many aboriginal organizations and their leaders.
