Exhibition records

Series consists of Exhibition records. These files include loan agreements, exhibition planning, correspondence with artists, and installation information. Records are arranged according the opening date of the exhibition, and are organised by fiscal year (April 1 to March 31). Within the fiscal year, the files are in alphabetical order according to the title of the exhibition, unless the title includes an artist's name. When an artist's last name forms part of the name of the exhibition, the records are often filed under the artist's name. "The" as part of an exhibition title is ignored. Exhibition records created before the 1970s sometimes also contain records of exhibitions that were cancelled or rejected, or those of travelling exhibitions handled by Extension Services. In later years, these records were segregated. Additional exhibition records are sometimes located in the Winnipeg Art Gallery Directors' files, Curatorial Managers' file, or Curators' files. Records for exhibitions which opened before the incorporation of the Winnipeg Art Gallery (May 6, 1963) are listed under the Winnipeg Art Gallery Association. Exhibition dates provided on files are not always accurate. Consult with the records of the Collections Management Department for precise dates.
