Volunteer members of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4138, work towards completion of the Grotto in Honour of Our Lady of Lourdes. When Father Ruh’s health began to fail dramatically towards the end of 1961, the Knights of Council #4138 pledged to complete the work begun by Father Ruh. This they did in time, but without his leadership, it was impossible to achieve the original concept.

Father Ruh gave permission to St. Josaphat’s Council of the Knights of Columbus, #4138, to use a mechanical cement mixer to finish this stage in construction of his Grotto in Honour of Our Lady of Lourdes. The method is visible in this photo. The dedicated Knights were not able, however, to achieve the original concept of the Grotto without Father Ruh’s leadership.
