Photographs

The series contains a wide variety of photographs, the majority of which are of the City of Brandon and Brandon residents. This includes streets, buildings, businesses, houses, and bridges. Also included are photographs taken of the 1920 arena fire at the Winter Fair Building. The series contains 29 slides of pictures taken at the demolition of the Prince Edward Hotel. Portraits in the series include those of individuals and of families, many of which were taken near the turn of the 20th century. Additionally, there are pictures of community groups, schools, and sports teams. Photographs taken outside of Brandon comprise mountains, the seal industry in Newfoundland, the opening of the International Peace Gardens, and scenes from Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg. There are 22 negatives in the collection made of both glass and plastic. Items are described in detail at the individual level.

The series contains magazines and other documents that were created c. 1970-1986 relating to the Assiniboine Historical Society. The series includes Heritage Canada magazines and annual reports, Kiwanis Club magazines, and Heritage Conversation magazines. There are also various forms and letters regarding subscriptions to these magazines.

Fonds consists of the administrative records of the Canadian Order of Lady Foresters, Court Princess Mary No. L2 chapter. Fonds includes charters, minute books, roll books, membership lists, and ledger books. Other materials in the fonds include badges of office, ritual books, a ballot box, and a hymnal.

Isabelle Heeney Collection

The collection contains material collected by Isabelle Heeney (1902-1996). The majority of the collection is comprised of written texts about Manitoba history. These texts include books about the history of Elton and Carberry Plains; Brandon teacher's strike of 1922; history of the Anglican Church in Brandon; and Manitoba's architectural heritage. There is also a cookbook from 1909 and five issues of a literary magazine published for Brandon Collegiate in the early 1900s. Other items in the collection include a Loyal Orange Lodge membership certificate from 1911, and a photograph of a bride c.1890.
