This fonds consists of correspondence and store records. A portion of the correspondence contains letters received from Russia (1895-1898) and the rest concerns various personal and community matters. The store records include ledgers (1891-1903) and account books (1894-1902) from the stores in both Gretna and Osler. Most of the material is handwritten.

The materials in this fonds consists of letters to and from family members in Russia after WWI, documents and photos related to Hoemsen's experiences during various wars including the Russo-Japanese war of 1905, and a book of memoirs edited by his daughter Margaret Silver. Also included are photos and documents relating to his wife Maria Heidebrecht's experience as a student. This fonds is unique as gives details of the various conflicts of the early 20th Century in Russia and how a Mennonite moved from doing alternative service to serving the Russian and German war efforts and actively participating in the Mennonite Selbstschutz (self defense unit).

J.J. Siemens family collection

This collection consists of correspondence among the J.J. Siemens family predominantly from daughter Viola and son John when they were in college in the United States and to a lesser degree from J.J. Siemens and his wife Marie Siemens. There are some speeches and correspondence by J.J. Siemens related to the Rhineland agricultural Society, Consumer's Cooperative, Co-op Vegetables Oils Ltd., and cooperatives generally as well as newspaper clippings. There is one small file consisting of correspondence and research notes regarding the writing of a Siemens biography.

This material gives a glimpse into the life of J.J. Siemens as an important individual in western Canada and the Mennonite community. The documents show some of his activities with co-operatives and agriculture. This collection also gives a window into the lives of his adult children and Siemens family dynamics.
