The parish and others gathered in front of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Ascension. Standing in the centre of the crowd in the third row from the rear is Mary Harasymchuk who was to marry Mike Yanchynski in Mountain Road in October of 1929.

The Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Ascension of the Blessed Virgin Mary, designed by Father Ruh and built between 1927 and 1929. The master carpenter was Mike Sawchuk who had been trained by Father Ruh in Mountain Road in 1924-1925.

According to Mary Yanchynski, who was Father Ruh’s housekeeper for thirty years, the photo shows Father Lopishansky, OMI, with the car given to Father Ruh by the Ukrainian Catholic parish in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

Joe Stutt of St. John the Baptist Parish, in his role as Jesus in The Passion Play which was written and directed by Father Ruh and performed throughout local communities to raise money to continue construction of the new church which was rededicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1952 as the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
