Menzies Family fonds.

Items consist of two photographs. This includes a copy print of a black & white photograph taken of Helen Irving Muir and Albert A. P. Menzies on the occasion of their marriage on 21 August 1939 as well as a newspaper clipping describing the wedding. Also found here is a colour photograph of Heather Muir Menzies on the occasion of her marriage in 1969.

With the exception of one photograph labeled 'Orpington, England, 1915', the photographs cannot be dated with any more accuracy than ca.1914 - 1918. Most of the photographs depict posed groups of CAMC nursing sisters, including a group of Canadian nursing sisters picking poppies in the Flanders area.Two are interior views of army field hospitals and one features four servicemen, one in a wheel chair.

Dr. James W. and Mary Armstrong fonds

Most of the photographs in this collection date from ca.1885 - 1925 and, while most of the subjects are unidentified, the identified subjects include members of the Campbell and Armstrong families and their friends. Several photographs in this collection date from ca.1865 and feature members of the Campbell family of Dr. Armstrong's wife, Mary. Also included is a large class photograph identified as students of Kelvin High School and dating from 1916.

The collection includes: 25 Cartes de Visites photographs dating from ca.1860-1875 and originally mounted in a small Cartes de Visites album (designated A-17). The subjects are various adults and children as are usually found in a family album. The collection also includes a large framed studio photograph (designated PHO-256) of a young girl (head and shoulders) identified as 'little Edith'. Edith was the daughter of Miss Pugh's grand uncle John Wilson, and fell victim to typhoid fever in 1896 at the age of 9.

The subjects of the photographs are individuals and groups of the type usually found in family albums. None of the subjects are identified. Many of the photographs have photographer's imprints from Milwaukee indicating a possible family connection with that city. As expected, many photographs display imprints indicating they were taken in Warsaw, Poland.

This collection contains 12 snapshots (one of which has been enlarged and mounted on a dark card), 3 postcard prints and 3 studio portraits. The subjects of these photographs are all individuals or groups of mostly young women but children and men also appear in several of the photographs. Of the identified subjects, only the name Gwen (or Gwendoline) is repeated twice. Included in this collection are two unusual postcards, ca.1912. The cards feature two prints in oval 'frames' on the face and messages in French on the reverse. Both are addressed to different addresses in Belgium, however, neither has stamps or displays any indication that they have been mailed.

The collection includes two postcard prints, ca. 1900 - 1910, of groups of school children. One group consists of 26 boys and two men. One of the boys holds a sign which reads 'St. John Baptist School [Standard?]'. The other consists of a large group of primary students seated at desks and two teachers. The collection also includes three snapshots of groups of men and women at a picnic somewhere in Winnipeg, ca.1908.
