Lockhart- Autobiography (First Drafts)

This folder contains the first 130 pages of a draft of an autobiography written by Lockhart in February 1976. The document covers Lockhart’s life from his birth up to the end of the Crowe case, and contains handwritten corrections written in Lockhart’s hand. Twelve pages of an earlier draft, containing heavy revisions, are also found in this folder.

Lockhart: “Norway Point Church”

This folder contains one copy of Lockhart’s book Norway Point Church, written in 1983. Also included are two bulletins from the church’s seventy-fifth anniversary, Lockhart’s sermon transcript from the anniversary service, correspondence with Toby (Crawford?) concerning the book and typed research used in writing the book.

Ordination and Homosexuals

This folder contains material regarding the ordination of gays and lesbians in the United Church as discussed by the 32nd General Council. The folder contains one copy of “Towards a Christian Understanding of Sexual Orientation, Lifestyles, and Ministry” and documents reacting to or commenting on it (including a Declaration of Dissent pertaining to ministers, a list of signatories and two copies of a Declaration of Dissent pertaining to moderators). It also includes documents published by the Community of Concern (including letters and reports written by Bill Fritz), two copies of the pamphlet “Membership, Ministry, and Human Sexuality,” three copies of Sang Chul Lee’s Moderator’s Letter, a sermon transcript and four newspaper articles. The contents of this file were not disturbed when order was imposed—no documents were added or removed.

University and Education

This series consists of documents detailing Lockhart’s life as a student in Canada and in Scotland, his position in the Student Christian Movement and his involvement with Victoria University as a graduate and a member of the alumni.

Oral History

This series contains five audio recordings pertaining to the life of Wilfred Lockhart and his brother Fraser. Tape A1 (“Conversation with Wilf and Wendy, May 1991”) takes the form of Wendy Duncan (Wilfred Lockhart’s daughter) interviewing Lockhart about his early years, and Tape A2 (“Wilf Reminisces, May 1991 and August 1991”) contains Lockhart’s continued reminiscing about similar subject matter. Tape B1 (“#1 Wilf and Fraser, Jan. 15 1991; Side 2 Wilfred Lockhart”) and Tape B2 (“#3 Wilf and Fraser”) contain recordings of Wilfred Lockhart interviewing his older brother Fraser about his life and the two reminiscing. Tape C (“Wilfred Lockhart, Dec. 1990”) contains a recording made by Wilfred Lockhart sent in lieu of a telephone call from his winter holiday in Florida – the recording was presumably intended for a family member and contains commentary on his childhood and life. All five tapes are estimated to run 90 minutes in duration and are copies of original cassette tapes.

This folder contains four reports and working papers, submissions to the Province of Manitoba, three meeting notice, 38 pieces of correspondence (primary correspondents H. H. Saunderson, G. Johnson, A. M. Monnin, G. M. Davies, Desmond P. Burke-Gaffney, Desmond Smith and Duff Roblin), 14 meeting minutes and agendas, a Plan of Organization and one article presented in regard to the status of various Colleges in Manitoba in relation to both the University of Manitoba and universities in Canada generally.

These include nine invitations, one speech transcript, four newspaper articles, one page of copied poems, one photograph of Lockhart’s house, one daybook, two documents relating to royalty statements, two certificates, two medical documents, one set of condominium fee documents, one living will, one federal tax form, one page of figures concerning headstones and one last will and testament.
