Gerald Dupont and Carla Davidson Collection

Collection consists of 6 photographs documenting scenes of the Northwest in 1885. The first five photographs depict the 95th Battalion of the Manitoba Grenadiers and the landscape and camp at Fort Qu'appelle, Saskatchewan. John Pattison, the father of the original owner of the images, E.J. Pattison, is depicted in at least one of the images. The sixth photograph depicts Major General Frederick Middleton and members of the North-West Field Force meeting with Chief Day Star (Kīsikāwacāhk) and his Plains Cree followers for a pipe-stem ceremony near Quill Lake, Saskatchewan.

Many of these were originally produced for language instruction and included teacher's manuals, readers, workbooks, curriculum guides, journals, reference materials, proceedings, and monographs. There are also materials published by missionary groups and religious societies for classroom teaching and services.

One of these photographs contains a hand written annotation on the back dated July 7, 1926 addressed to a Mr. Albert €"Bertie"€ Blair of Tyndall, Manitoba. The third photograph is of a rodeo setting titled "€œRoping a Steer at the '€˜Stampede' Winnipeg 1913."€ This photograph shows a stadium of people watching three horsemen tie a cow on its back with rope.
