Northern Manitoba Trappers' Festival collection

The Northern Manitoba Trappers’ Festival collection consists of various records from several Trappers’ Festivals hosted in The Pas including financial records from 1948 – 1955 and 1983, correspondence from 1949, 1955 and 1983, a record book from 1950 – 1955 containing dates and notations on various events, Trappers’ Festival ephemera from 1980 – 1981 and 1983- 1984 including programmes and newspaper clippings, and festival notes and reports from 1954 – 1955 and 1983.

Reader family collection

The Reader family collection consists of two pen and ink drawings of The Pas and Devon Mission, Oonikup Cumberland House, Moose Lake Grand Rapids, done circa 1895 (possibly by Dunlop); applications to purchase land in The Pas, and a sheet of instructions from Sam Waller to Phil Reader on how to clean skulls.

The Pas Rotary Club Little Northern Museum project collection

The Pas Rotary Club Little Northern Museum project collection consists of correspondence regarding the raising of funds for the new museum building, including an offer to purchase, blank copies of certificates awarded to fundraiser participants, contact with the builder and correspondence with the Manitoba Historical Society, Liberal Party in Manitoba, Manitoba Centennial Corporation, Minister of Tourism and Recreations, among others.

The Tom Lamb fonds consists of photocopies of Tom Lamb’s writings on his family history and anecdotes of life in the north.

Kathleen Rice fonds

The Kathleen Rice fonds consists of the diaries and manuscripts of Kathleen Rice, as well as miscellaneous items including published articles, photos, artwork and a letter. The diary (dated from September 26, 1944 to January 30th, 1954) contains daily accounts of happenings, philosophising, and weather at the author’s camp at Wossey I. in Herb Lake. The manuscripts included are articles based on diary excerpts, and technical subjects such as gravity, evolution, etc.

J. A. Campbell collection

The J. A. Campbell collection consists of correspondence, speeches, a photo-catalogue, reports, four scrapbooks and ephemera. The correspondence includes personal (1918 – 1919), The Pas Board of Trade (1917 – 1944), various Rotary Clubs (Estevan, Banff, Kenora, Prince Albert, etc. 1934 – 1940), the 1921 election, Hudson Bay Railway (1920 – 1928), correspondence with several newspapers including the Winnipeg Tribune (1926 – 1928), etc. Speeches written and delivered by J. A. Campbell in various venues (1920s – 1940s) range in topic from politics to resources in the North and the importance and significance of the Hudson Bay Railway. Reports compiled since 1886 – 1958 on The Hudson Bay Railway Route (1886 – 1924), mining of natural resources in Northern Manitoba (1917 – 1924) and reports on The Pas (1958).The photo-catalogue contains descriptions/titles for photographs from 1916 – 1923, 25 pages. The scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings about the Hudson Bay Railway from 1923 – 1924.

Collection consists of two items: a list of items included in Grub Box, and a photocopy of “An Ode to Gerry Malaher,” a poem commemorating Gerry Malaher, a well-respected conservation officer in Northern Manitoba.

Bert Hutton fonds

The fonds consists of a University chemistry notebook (ca. 1930), a letter to Bert Hutton’s father (1909) and a letter from Sports Illustrated to Bert Hutton about an article he submitted to them on Ducks Unlimited (1957), an article written for The Beaver, and a seven page autobiography on the Hutton family (from after 1974).
