Jewish Immigrant Aid Society, Western Region case files

Series consists of case files of immigrants and others who receipt or sought the help of Jewish Immigrant Aid Society (JIAS), Western Region. The case files include application forms, correspondence, supporting government documentation and other records used in support of their applications.

Nearly all files contain an application form that details who is seeking to immigrate, including names, birthdates and occupation as well as similar information about the Canadian resident supporting the application. Records also include correspondence between the office and the applicants in addition to correspondence with Canadian and international governments, other JIAS offices and agencies in other countries, such as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society in the United States. Other records may include birth certificates, marriage registers, cheque receipts, boat tickets or photographs used to support applications.

A few cases files are related to soldiers returning to Canada after World War Two who were seeking assistance in finding employment.
