History
Roderick Oliver Alexander Hunter received his undergraduate education at United College and graduated with a law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1941. He went on to serve in the Second World War, and after its completion he returned to Winnipeg, where he would spend the next 25 years working for the Great West Life Assurance Company. He served as Chairman of the Board of Regents of United College and as the third Chancellor of the University of Winnipeg from 1978 to 1984. He was a founding member of the Manitoba Universities Grants Commission. In order to help encourage students he set up scholarships at the University of Winnipeg; in the communities of Mather, Manitou and Baldur; and served as a trustee for the Sir William Stephenson Scholarship. He was awarded an honourary doctorate from the University of Winnipeg in 1971. Hunter passed away on December 2nd, 2001.
