Biographical history

Henri Francq was born in 1904, in Charleroi, Belgium. He studied at the University of Antwerp, than worked for his father's company. He spent time in France, Algeria, and Spain before coming to Canada in 1961. He taught high school French in Swan River, then joined the French department at Brandon University. He remained there until his retirement in 1972. After retirement, he devoted his time to writing and completed 12 books in many different fields: fiction, non-fiction, history, and satire. Francq was especially drawn to the history of the Jewish Holocaust of WWII. He died on May 5th, 1991, and is buried in Swan River.

Custodial history

This fonds was accessioned in 1997 & 1999 by the McKee Archives. Prior custodial history is unknown.

Scope and content

This fonds contains records pertaining to the career of Henri Francq at Brandon University, although the majority are concerned with his writing career after his retirement. Fonds includes published versions of his work, and an even greater number of unpublished manuscripts, and research material dealing with the Nazi holocaust and Ernst Zundel. Francq was a fierce opponent of fascism and racism. His work was dedicated principally to a critique of right-wing ideology and its political manifestations. His satirical works are all highly critical of modern society and politics. This fonds also contains a few issues of "La Revue de L'Universite Laval" from 1966.
