Biographical history

Harry Anderson was born April 15, 1908 in Syllam Island, Denmark. In 1927, at the age of 19, Harry immigrated to Canada with his brother, Pete. After working on a dairy farm in Melfort, Saskatchewan for two years, he moved to The Pas and started the Black and White Dairy. Harry sold milk door to door. He and his wife Katherine raised four sons on the farm. In 1960, Harry sold the dairy and retired on the Carrot River Road. He began raising beef cattle and also was a cattle buyer for Porky Packers. He was actively involved in the Agricultural Society and received numerous awards for his contribution. Harry passed away December 16, 2002 at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas at the age of 94.

Consists of thirteen original cassette tapes (PA2002.3.1-13), nine access copies of cassette tapes, and eight transcripts for the interview with Harry Anderson. Topics covered include married life, Keddie & Fowler (grocery store), early The Pas life, the birth of Anderson’s sons, child rearing, farm life, religion, rodeo, family, Anderson’s life in Denmark – employment, childhood, farm life, climate, schooling, war life; emigration, Canadian life, climate, life in Melfort, dairy business, Dembinsky’s store, Harry Fishman’s, Anderson’s mother, Anderson’s father, The Pas during World War II, farm animals, and The Pas murder scandal.
