Biographical history

Harrow United Church has existed in Winnipeg since 1931. The predecessors of Harrow United Church were the Sunshine Mission (c. 1916), the Stafford Avenue Mission (c. 1919?), and Stafford Avenue United Church. The Sunshine Mission established itself in an abandoned store at the corner of Scotland and Aynsley (Arbuthnot) in 1916. It functioned under the direction of a joint committee formed by Fort Rouge Methodist Church, Augustine Presbyterian Church and Crescent Congregational Church. A few years later, the mission moved to a small structure on the corner of Stafford and Dudley and adopted the name Stafford Avenue Mission. In 1925, the Stafford Avenue Mission became Stafford Avenue United Church, and between 1930 and 1932, the congregation adopted the name Harrow United Church. The congregation called its first regular minister in 1947. In 1948, a Building Committee was organized and property was purchased at the corner of Mulvey and Harrow for a new church structure. The new Harrow United Church was dedicated in 1949. A Christian Education Building was added in 1953. In 1972, the congregation of Harrow United Church began sharing its facilities with the Korean congregation. Harrow United Church is located at 955 Mulvey Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
