Biographical history

Bethel Harold Stinson was born in the RM of Arthur on 17 February 1903, son of Robert Stinson and Emma Thackery. They had a son named Hartley. B. Harold Stinson graduated from Wesley College in 1931 and went on to teach at North Antler School from 1923-1924 and other rural Manitoba schools. He was then the Principal of Wawanesa School from 1932-1936 and Carberry School from 1938-1939. He moved to Winnipeg in 1943 and taught at General Wolfe School for two years. He was the Sunday School Superintendent at Westminster United Church and Secretary of the IOOF Service Board. He died in Winnipeg on 12 April 1960 and was buried in the Garry Memorial Park.

Custodial history

The album was in the possession of B. Harold Stinson. Stinson's son, Hartley Stinson, donated it to the University of Winnipeg Archives on 21 April 2005 while disposing of his father's effects. Upon its placement in the Archives' backlog, it was assigned the number BL-89.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of an album comprised of photographs depicting B. Harold Stinson's time as a student at Wesley College, including athletic activities such as curling, soccer, track and field and hockey, and photographs of his personal life outside the University such as trips and home activities. The souvenirs within the album relate to the student activities in which Stinson participated including ticket stubs and programs.

Immediate source of acquisition

The album was donated to the University of Winnipeg Archives by B. Harold Stinson's son, Hartley Stinson, on April 15, 2005.

Arrangement

The original order of the fonds has been maintained and no series were needed as the fonds consists of only one photo album.
