Margaret Alice Hample was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on February 1, 1927. She was one of the first students of the Winnipeg Ballet Club in 1938, with which she danced until 1948. She then danced in Montreal and New York before moving to London, England, where she appeared in musical comedy, cabarets, ballet and British television and film. She returned to Winnipeg as a guest artist, where she met and married John Piasecki, the publicity chair and Royal Winnipeg Ballet Board member.
