Name of creator
Grace Methodist Church existed in the Manitoba community of Pomeroy, located northwest of Roland, from 1875 to 1925. Rev. D. Pomeroy was sent to the area in 1875 by the Methodist Episcopal Conference in Ontario, and soon afterwards built a small church on NW-17-5-4 and named it Pomeroy Methodist Church, after himself. This church was said to be the first Methodist church in Southern Manitoba. It was used for five to six years before services were moved to the more comfortable schoolhouse a half mile west. Pomeroy Methodist Church joined the Roland Pastoral Charge around 1890. A frame church was built in 1896 and dedicated on December 13 of that year. It was given the name of Grace Methodist Church after Grace Young, a teacher who organized a Sunday School and later became a missionary to China. In 1925, Grace Methodist Church officially joined the United Church of Canada to become Grace United Church.
The records of Grace Methodist Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario as part of a transfer of records from the Roland Pastoral charge in June of 1978.
Scope and content
