Biographical history

Jean Claude Gaudet est né le 9 février 1868, neuvième enfant de Benoit Gaudet et de Claudine Preslier, à Régnier, France. Le 7 décembre 1892, il épousa Joséphine Oberger et ils eurent trois enfants. Après avoir été boulanger à Lyon, France, et pour échapper aux lois du gouvernement Combes, Jean Gaudet quitta la France en 1903 et s'établit à Wauchope en Saskatchewan. Sa famille le rejoignit l'année suivante. Il fut actif dans la Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste et fut aussi président de l'Association catholique franco-canadienne de la Saskatchewan (ACFC)

Ces copies des lettres de Jean Gaudet qu'il écrivait à sa famille en France (1903-1904) relatent le voyage qu'il fit pour se rendre au Canada en 1903 et ses premières impressions de l'Ouest canadien.
