Biographical history

Emmanuel Anglican United Church has existed in the Ontario community of Ignace, which is located on the Trans Canada highway halfway between Thunder Bay and Kenora, since 1925. Its predecessor was a Presbyterian Church built in 1910 and was located on the northeast corner of James and Garden Streets, which continued to be used as The United Church. The church was damaged by a fire in 1945. The bell tower was removed in 1958 for safety reasons. The church building was often shared by other denominations during the 1970s, but in 1976 the arrangement with the Anglican congregation became official, and the church was renamed Emmanuel Anglican United Church. Rev. C. Day was the first to preside over the new arrangement. A new church, located on 501 Pine Street, was built in 1986 and consecrated on April 21, 1987. The old church building was later demolished. As of 2007, Emmanuel Anglican United Church belongs to the Ignace Pastoral charge in the Cambrian Presbytery.
