Name of creator

Biographical history

Emma J. (Hayward) Muirhead (1896-1974). She was born in Milton, North Dakota and died in Brandon. She married William J. Muirhead in 1933 and moved from Roblin to the village of Douglas, Manitoba where she lived until 1973. Muirhead had previously moved from her birthplace to Canada with her parents. She took her high school at Roblin, Manitoba where she began teaching school and studying music. She later studied at the Toronto Conservatory, the London College of Music. Muirhead was an Examiner of School Music Examinations for the Manitoba Department of Education. She taught at Douglas School and Carberry School, and established several choral and musical groups in the southwest Manitoba area.

Custodial history

Records have been transferred to the Carberry Plains Archives in 1988 by the Carberry Plains Museum, who received the material from Muirhead's estate.

Scope and content

Fonds consists of material on the choir which won the Shield at Brandon Music Competition Festival. Participants are identified.
