Biographical history

Ernest and Elsie Eedy were residents of Monominto which is situated in the south-east corner of the Rural Municipality of Springfield.

Custodial history

The oldest photographs in this holding date from ca.1865 - 1910 and were collected by Ernest Eedy's mother Ethel Eedy (nee Kirk) whose family came to Manitoba from Ontario via California. The subjects of the photographs are members of her family with the one exception of a group photograph of a 'Votes for Women' rally which Ethel Eedy attended. Also included is Ernest and Elsie Eedy's wedding album with eighteen photos of their 1955 wedding. The photographs were donated to the Dugald Costume Museum, along with Elsie Eedy's wedding dress, by Ernest and Elsie Eedy in 1983.

Scope and content

The holding consists of: -A small carte de visite album containing four cartes de visite photographs and four tin types, ca.1865. The subjects are individuals, couples and groups. Two of the tin types are identified as Kirks. -A collection of fourteen loose photographs which, with the exception of one carte de visite photograph, are cabinet card format or larger, ca.1865 - 1910. The subjects include individuals, couples and groups. There are two wedding photographs, including one of Fred and Ethel Eedy. -A wedding album containing eighteen photographs, ca.1955, from Ernest and Elsie's wedding.

The carte de visite album is a small (11.5cm X 8.5cm) traveling album with a tooled black leather cover and gold lettering on the spine. There is room for sixteen photographs in frame pages with arched openings and decorative gold 'cartouche' edging. The wedding album is ivory in colour with the inscription Our Children's Wedding on the front in gold letters. There are nine double sided window pages (room for eighteen photographs) with embossed gold metal corners.
