Administrative history

The Ebenezer Methodist Church existed in the Shadeland District, six miles southwest of Thornhill, Manitoba, in the Rural Municipality of Pembina, from 1884 to 1897. Originally built by the Bible Christian Church in 1882, it became the Ebenezer Methodist Church in 1884. Reverend Colwell presided over the service. The church was part of the Alexandria circuit that included Ebenezer, Thornhill, Darlington, Kilgours, Lorne, and Calf Mountain. In 1888, the name of the circuit changed from Alexandria to Thornhill, and the church board decided to move the church one mile east, to Ebenezer. In 1895, a new church was built at Ebenzer. The old church was moved off the site and was demolished in 1982. In 1897, the church changed its name from Ebenezer Methodist to Zion Methodist.

Custodial history

The records of Ebenezer Methodist Church came to The United Church of Canada Archives-Conference of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario from a private donor.

Scope and content

The surviving records of Ebenezer Methodist Church held at the conference archives include records of the Alexandria circuit (1884-1897).
