Biographical history

Delores (Dolly) Westerlund was born in Starbuck, Manitoba in 1928 and graduated from Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Immediately after graduation she was offered a placement in the Operating Room and this is where she spent the rest of her nursing career. Initially she worked as a nurse in the OR and in 1965 she took over teaching the Operating Room Technician course until 1983. In 1999 she and her husband, Michael Gembey, established an endowment fund for Nursing research and in 2006 the Centre for Nursing Excellence was opened. After retirement, Dolly volunteered in the Nurses Alumni Archives until her death in May 2014.

The records of Dolly Gembey were collected by the Nurses Alumni Association of the Winnipeg General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre.
