Administrative history

Dempsey School #189 was founded in 1883 to provide educational services to children of the Gregg, Manitoba area. It was replaced in 1955 and closed in 1966 with the amalgamation of school districts into the Beautiful Plains School Division. Detailed information is available in "Carberry Plains: A Century".

Custodial history

Records have been presented to the Carberry Plains Archives in 1989 by Byron Moffatt of Carberry, Manitoba, in 1990 by persons unknown, and in 1994 by the John Moffatt family of Carberry (Eva (McIntyre) Moffatt, his wife, taught at the school).

Scope and content

Fonds consists of minute books (1882-1934), cash books (1885-1928), daily attendance registers (1906-1966, missing 1907-1911), half-year attendance registers (1883-1905), miscellaneous papers, voter's list (1954), and a black and photograph of the 1935-1936 class. Registers are indexed for students and teachers.
