Biographical history

David Hugh Yeddeau was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended theatre school before becoming the stage manager of a touring Chautauqua Theatre Company. When he returned to Winnipeg, he gained experience acting, directing, painting scenes, staging and make-up and also taught drama. He began his career with the Winnipeg Ballet when it began in 1939. He was first assigned as stage manager and technical assistant to Gweneth Lloyd, but his responsibilities grew to include publicity and company manager. He was responsible for the creation of the Canadian Ballet Festivals, first hosted by Winnipeg in 1948. He left for Toronto in 1949, although he was still involved with the touring for the Winnipeg Ballet until about 1951.
