General note

History: David John Black was born on June 27, 1897 in the R.M. of Elton, Manitoba to R. James Black and Hannah Leybourne. David J. Black took up farming in 1920 on the south west half of Section 3, Township 12 and Range 18 West in the R.M. of Elton, Manitoba. He married Mildred Irene Clarke (1904-1985), daughter of John Clarke and Mary Cynthia Burgess on April 3, 1929. They had three daughters, Elva, Norma, Betty and a son named Kern. In 1935, the Black family moved to the North half of Section 35, Township 10 and Range 19 in the R.M. of Cornwallis. David J. and Irene Black retired to Brandon in 1966.
David John Black was associated with the Manitoba Agricultural Museum in Austin, Manitoba, a life member of the Brandon Horticultural Society, a member of the Assiniboine Historical Society and a founder of the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame. He passed away on February 24, 1982 in Brandon, Manitoba
